Specs & Features
- Cooler, denser Air: Delivers a massive 30% increase in airflow over stock, helping your FA24 engine breathe easier and run cooler.
- The "Thrust Tunnel": Features a custom wrinkle-black aluminum shroud that seals perfectly to your hood duct, forcing 100% of the air through the core instead of letting it escape around the sides.
- Premium Core Tech: Built with a high-density 20" x 7" x 4" Garrett Core and cast aluminum end tanks for durability that outlasts the plastic factory parts.
- Plug-and-Play Power: Completely compatible with the Stock Tune or COBB Stage 1 Maps—no custom tuning required to see benefits.
- Zero Lag: Unlike front-mount setups that add piping length, this design keeps the throttle response instant—crucial for merging and towing.
Product Description
The Subaru Ascent is a surprisingly capable machine, packing the same FA24 turbo engine found in the new WRX. But it has a glass jaw: the stock intercooler. When the car is loaded up with kids, luggage, or a trailer, the engine works hard. The tiny stock intercooler gets heat-soaked quickly, and the ECU pulls power right when you need it most. The COBB Tuning Top Mount Intercooler fixes this weak link, ensuring the SUV performs as well at the top of the hill as it did at the bottom.
COBB didn't just slap a bigger core on top of the engine. A bigger core is useless if air flows around it. The engineers developed the COBB Thrust Tunnel, a dedicated duct that captures air from the hood scoop and forces it directly through the premium Garrett Core. This ensures maximum thermal efficiency. Whether sitting in school pickup traffic or towing a boat up a mountain grade, this system keeps intake temps under control.
On a race car, a Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC) makes sense. On a heavy SUV like the Ascent, you want transient response (torque right now). FMICs add feet of piping that creates turbo lag. By keeping the intercooler in the factory top-mount location but optimizing the flow, COBB keeps the turbo spool instant. This means when the driver puts their foot down to pass a semi-truck, the power is there immediately.
COBB designed this to be a painless upgrade. It reuses the stock charge pipe geometry with high-quality Reinforced Silicone Couplers and factory-style O-ring seals for a leak-free fit. Best of all, a tune is not required to run it. It works safely on the factory calibration, making it an excellent reliability upgrade for any owner. However, if the driver does want to unlock more fun, it’s fully ready for COBB Stage 1 maps.
It’s not about making the Ascent a race car; it’s about making it a more consistent, reliable workhorse. By dropping charge air temperatures and increasing airflow by 30%, this part protects the engine and ensures consistent power delivery in all conditions. Treat that turbo right with COBB.
